Burlesque Fitness Changed My Life !! (Pixie’s Story)
I first started dancing when I was just three years old. Dance was a massive part of my life. Attending ballet, street, tap and Latin classes I loved the dance life. I passed all my exams and always worked hard pushing myself. My favourite part was always the after exam shows. The stage, the lights, the costumes. I loved every part of it, even the quick costume changes and hairstyles that were put together with so much hairspray and grips. I danced up to the age of 14 years old when I then stopped.
In 2016 it all started again. Working in my dream job I heard from one of the ladies that she attended a burlesque class every week and I became curious about it all. Not really knowing much about burlesque I didn’t know what to really expect other then it was a new popular form of dance and fitness. I plucked up the courage and attended my first burlesque class. I can’t really say much other then I fell in love with it pretty quickly. After just a few months with an amazing instructor and a lovely bunch of ladies I put on my fishnets and took part in my first ever burlesque show. After that, I was officially in love with it and became the ‘Burlesque Baby’.
I continued dancing with the burlesque ladies taking part in another show and even finding the courage to join in a striptease workshop. I loved burlesque and nothing could stop me attending classes every week. In 2018 I had my highs dancing at charity events, dancing my first striptease in a show in front of people other than the ladies I dance with and becoming an instructor myself changing my name to Pixie La Rouge! But I also had my lows. I began to suffer from anxiety and skin problems. My skin began to redden and flare up with allergic reactions leaving me covered with scratches, marks and scars all over my body that I would cover up even on hotter days. I felt so low some days that I wanted to give up dance once more but with the help of my ladies and Lulu Estrella I came to love my body, scars included.
I began to become more confident in myself again and became an instructor for Twisted Belles Burlesque joining Lulu Estrella and teaching at Silhouette Fitness. Little did I know I would slowly become obsessed with dance once more and I became part of the Twisted Belles Entertainment team. I began to go to events with the Belles and dance, ring girl, balloon pop and stilt walk. It was a great way to combine my dance background with new elements and it became a new challenge and another way to make me feel good about myself alongside burlesque.
With this, I was able to help the ladies that came to me creating a group of strong empowered women. My ladies have slowly begun to take a similar journey to me over-coming their fears, taking part in shows, events and workshops loving their bodies. Without the help of my ladies and Lulu Estrella, I don’t know if I would have continued dancing so thank you all from the bottom of my heart. To anyone reading this please remember we have all had our ups and downs but you need to push through and keep going. Twisted Belles Burlesque really has changed my life and every week I get to go to class and see my strong, confident, sexy ladies shake their stuff and know I am helping and pushing these ladies the way my instructor pushed me.
